AI Strategy & Economics

The useful AI question isn't which model is best but which use case can prove itself before the next budget cycle, and what it will cost to run. Vector 1 helps leaders rank AI opportunities by time to proof, size the real costs, measure pilots against a fair comparison group, and plan for how saved time becomes money.

What we do

  • Use-case ranking by time to proof: volume, feedback lag and noise, before anyone buys a license
  • Pilot measurement with difference-in-differences and staggered rollouts, reported as ranges
  • Inference cost and build-versus-buy analysis: self-hosted GPUs versus APIs
  • Payback planning that accounts for how much saved time is actually captured

Common questions

How do you measure whether an AI pilot worked?

Compare the teams that got the tool with similar teams that didn't, over the same weeks, and measure the change in both groups (difference-in-differences). Simple before-and-after comparisons also count anything else that changed, and comparing volunteers with everyone else counts how strong those teams already were. Check that the groups were on parallel paths before launch, and report the result as a range.

Where does AI pay off first?

In use cases with high volume, fast feedback and cheap mistakes, such as service, writing and document work, where a test can be proven in about a month. Rare or slow outcomes, like credit losses or equipment failures, can take years to prove for a single organization.

Do you work with teams outside Kansas City?

Yes. Vector 1 is based in Kansas City and works with teams in the metro and remotely.
